The Flamingo Theatre Club has been a thriving part of RAF Akrotiri since 1963, providing many forms of entertainment for all in Akrotiri as well as
the wider community. The club premises, with its function room, was also a
very popular venue for private events on the station.
We are alive and kicking, and currently preparing for this year's pantomime.
Information concerning auditions, rehearsals and performance dates will be
widely publicised very soon. The core members have worked tirelessly to keep
going since the Flamingo Theatre Club was forced to cancel the pantomime just days before the first night. The building was summarily closed, and
padlocks attached to all windows and doors, in December 2006. The reason
given was asbestos.
The club has continued with the considerable support of the Station Commander. We also owe many thanks to the Akrotiri Saddle Club who have
kindly allowed us to set up a bar of our own using their facilities. This has given us a place to meet during these dark days. We are in the process
of preparing a bid for a new theatre building, with associated facilities.
We are optimistic for the future, but of course are always on the lookout for new members with skills to help us plan for the future of the Flamingo
Theatre Club.
