| SECTION B ORDERS FOR THE DUTY INSTRUCTOR 1. The duty instructor will be appointed by the CFI by roster. Instructors may change their duties with another instructor of the same rating, but must inform the CFI beforehand. 2. The duty instructor will be responsible for the ground organisation of the club and the maintenance of flying discipline throughout his tour of duty, including the discipline of all spectators present, and the safety or aircraft and other equipment. 3. Before moving any equipment onto the airfield the duty instructor is to ensure that CPC operations have ceased and that if the CPC aircraft is in the vicinity or on the airfield what its intentions are. If CPC are still operating then the duty instructor is to liaise with the PJI. 4. The wind velocity (ie cross wind limits as well), cloud base and visibility should all be within limits before moving aircraft from the hanger. 5. The duty instructor is to ensure that: a. The airfield is suitable for gliding to take place. b. The winches are sited so that cables will fall clear of obstructions and aircraft. c. Daily inspections have been carried out on all aircraft and vehicles and other equipment being used. When necessary he/she is to detail club members to clean/wash gliders before flying commences. d. A flying programme is made out and instructors allocated to pupils. He/she is to nominate a solo pilot who is to be the Duty Pilot, and anyone wishing to fly must see him and have his name placed on the list against the aircraft for which he/she is qualified. Trial lessons may be flown, providing that the training programme is not interrupted or unduly curtailed. New members are to be supervised using the "Buddy-Buddy" system until conversant with glider operations. e. Detail from the list of qualified personnel, winch drivers on an hourly relief basis, cable retrieve drivers and timekeepers as necessary. f The following equipment is to be available at the launch point: (1) Flying list. (2) Aircraft log books. (3) Flying log sheets. (4) Membership forms. (5) Pupil record cards. (6) Parents consent to fly forms. (7) Signalling bat. (8) First aid kit. (9) Tyres for use as wing tip weights. (10) Aero-tow rope and crash/fire equipment (When aero-tows and motor glider are scheduled). (11) Spare strops and weak links. (12) Ballast. g. All required log books are correctly signed and that no periodic servicing or unservicibilities are outstanding, ie: 'open' or unsigned entries. h. Carry out daily release checks using a spare strop. I. All pilots are correctly briefed for each flight and log sheets are correctly filled out J. All pilots have signed as having read and understood these orders. k. Flying is conducted in accordance with RAFGSA regulations and other regulations as appropriate. L. The highest possible standard of flying discipline is maintained. m. Any infringement of the regulations is brought to the attention of the CFI as soon as possible. n. Hangar flights are completed and the airfield completely vacated before dusk. o. That pupils and pilots are ready to fly without delay and that the timekeepers perform their work satisfactorily. The duty instructor should not take on the responsibility for collection of cash on the field or other administrative tasks which would distract his attention from the control of flying operations. p. The aircraft are retrieved promptly and positioned to await the correct cable. q. All gliders are properly attended and correctly parked at all times. r. Every pilot is properly strapped in and that the cable is not attached until the pre-flight cockpit checks have been completed. s. The downwind cable is used first each time. t. There are no obstructions at the landing/take off point and that cars are parked clear and downwind of the launch point. u. That only authorised signalling methods are used (Annex C). v. Any aircraft damaged or involved in a heavy landing is properly inspected by a qualified aircraft inspector before the aircraft flies again. w. In the event of a cable break a person is dispatched to find the broken end, and that the broken cable is clear of the remaining cable, before allowing another launch to take place. x. No pilot flies solo unless in possession of a current medical certificate in accordance with AP 1269A Chapter 3, current aircrew excepted. Non instructor civilian members are to comply with BGA regulations. y. The duty instructor is fully responsible and his decisions may only be overruled by the CFI or, in the case of the duty instructor being a restricted rating instructor, by a fully rated club instructor. Because of his responsibility for the safety of aircraft and personnel on the ground, he/she is not to fly or leave his post without handing over his duty, properly, to another qualified instructor. Accidents In the event of an accident he/she is to: a. Stop all flying b. Proceed to the scene of the accident taking the first aid kit and rendering first aid where necessary. c. Inform the Dhekelia MRS of the nature and location of the accident, if anyone is injured. d. Obtain names and addresses of witnesses and with Form 3935 (glider log book) deliver to the CFI. e. Have the aircraft photographed before moving anything, after authorisation, with the exception of flying personnel. 7 End of Flying At the end of each day's flying he/she is to ensure that: a. All Club equipment is cleared from the airfield and from members' cars and is stowed in the clubhouse or the hangar as appropriate and that the hangar is secured. Under no circumstances may any gliding equipment be left on the airstrip overnight. b. An inspection of the airstrip for loose articles is carried out. |
